9th International Festival "CHRISTMAS MUSICAL MEETINGS IN NORTHERN PALMYRA"

The festival will feature well-known Russian and foreign musicians as well as young talented performers for whom this will be the first major festival. The Art Director of St. Petersburg Philharmonic, famous conductor Yuri Temirkanov, have agreed to be the musical director of the festival.

The panel of judges of this children's musical competition will consist of the leading piano performers of Russia, Latvia and Estonia. The contest will close with a gala concert at the Glinka Maly Hall of St. Petersburg Philharmonic in which both the laureates and the judges will perform together.
3) 3rd International Children's Contest named after Valery Gavrilin "I AM A COMPOSER"
The panel of judges will be chaired by composer Andrei Petrov, chairman of the Union of Composers of St. Petersburg. The contest will be closed with a gala concert of laureates.

4th International Contest of Young Performers on Folk Instruments named after Vasily Andreev

In the year 2000 Mariinsky Theater's Opera led by maestro Velery Gergiev will produce the new version of Sergei Prokofiev's opera "War and Peace". Well-known filmmaker Andrei Mikhalkov-Konchalovsky will direct new production (art director - Georgy Tsypin). For the next two years Mariinsky Opera will work on the first Russian production of the entire Richard Wagner's "Ring of the Nibelung". Meanwhile, the Mariinsky Ballet intends to produce "Manon" (choreographed by McMilllan) and a new production of the "Nutcracker" with set designs by the famous artist Mikhail Shemyakin. In this year's festival STARS OF THE WHITE NIGHTS (masterminded and chaired by maestro Gergiev) you will see the latest premieres of Mariinsky Theater as well as guest performance by the orchestra of La Scala and orchestra of North Germany Radio
