  The Choral Synagogue, Jewish cemetery...

 Dear Barbara,

Jewish sites are not very numerous in St. Petersburg, but they exist and are kept in a reasonably good shape.

First of all, there is the Choral Synagogue (the main synagogue of St. Petersburg) which is located in Lermontovsky Prospekt, only 2 blocks away from the world-famous Mariinsky Theater (formerly Kirov Opera and Ballet). The synagogue has just gotten a facelift, but some works might be still under way. The synagogue was built in the last quarter of the 19th century and is very nice - good architecture, historical exhibit in the lobby, some very friendly people. The synagogue was built with the money graciously donated by some prominent jewish businessmen - if you look at the front row of seats in the synagogue you will see little plaques with their names. They all were given their personals seats in the hall, which were preserved till today.

There is also a Jewish Cemetery, located in South St. Petersburg on the street called Prospekt Aleksandrovskoi Fermy. Very nice old histoic cemetery with beautiful graves and many celebrities buried.
